Now his latest EP 'You' is out June 15th in the U.S. in support of his tour with HEALTH and Indian Jewelry. Strange Daze Music And Arts Festival 2 @ The Masquerade

"The Strange Daze Music and Arts Festival is an event with a purpose. For two days this summer, The Moon and Pluto, an Atlanta-based music-centric community, will shine a light on the dynamic musical talent in the region. In an effort to focus on originality, diversity, and substance, meticulous and extensive consideration has been granted to the applicants for this year’s festival. The breadth of Atlanta’s local musicians is outstanding, and though accommodations couldn’t be met for all the deserving talent, Strange Daze delivers on presenting an eclectic mix of near 40 of the most impressive artists within the melting pot of progressive, punk, experimental, reggae, folk, country, electronic, dance, acoustic, steampunk, and indie rock.

Strange Daze is not only an opportunity for musicians and fans to gather together, but also a means for various promotional opportunities for the bands involved. With a vigorous purpose to bring attention to the inspiring and non-compromising musicians in the vast sea of Atlanta music, The Moon and Pluto has partnered up with several music news sponsors, including Performer Magazine, The Silver Tongue, BeAtlanta, Target Audience Magazine, and MadeLoud.com. These sponsors are supporting our efforts to bring recognition to these musical entities by including the Strange Daze bands in their publications as featured artists, providing exposure in the way of album or show reviews, and promoting the festival before its arrival. Wax N’ Facts Record Store in Atlanta’s Little 5 Points is also contributing by displaying the albums of the Strange Daze bands on their countertop in the weeks before the festival, giving the locals a chance to browse and listen to the Strange Daze line-up!

Incorporating the fine art of aspiring Atlanta artists, Strange Daze attempts to accentuate the inevitable cross-inspiration between the sonic and visual arts. Multiple artists with a variety of media, including paintings, jewelry, photography, and drawings will be setting up throughout the venue, making their work available for display and purchase. Artful surprises are in the works and will be announced in the coming weeks.  Picaflor Studios is the new official art sponsor of Strange Daze and will be helping recruit and organize the artists for the festival. Picaflor is an impressive DIY art gallery that also functions as a music venue by night. Their philosophy is inextricable from the one behind the Strange Festival, whereby focus on the collective and supporting the people involved in the vast creative scene in Atlanta will help it blossom.

Strange Daze will take place at The Masquerade on August 14, 15 utilizing two stages in Purgatory and Hell. Food vendors will be available on-site and tickets for the event will be available through TicketMaster or The Masquerade Box Office starting April 30. $10/day or $15/2-day pass. Saturday, August 14 3pm- 2am, Sunday, August 15 3pm-midnight."

Oblong - Catch The Sun

Exceptional Records released the debut album from Oblong last week on iTunes. Patrick Kenmore is the producer/mastermind behind Oblong, however he says that there would be no Oblong without his longtime friend Adam Parker (whose vocals you may have heard on DJ Sasha's "Highlife"). So far I think they're on the right path.

Burn The Negative - How To Weigh The Human Soul

Burn The Negative's sophmore album comes out soon! There's something about when you watch a promotional video for something or someone you weren't that interested in at first but then you can actually see, hear, feel the heart in it. Yeah, these guys definitely did that to me this time. I may not care that much for thier look, but the tunes are pretty good. Keep your eyes out for more!

Alvin Lucier - I Am Sitting In A Room

This entry is different than anything we have ever posted on OMFG, and at the same time, it is not so different whatsoever. I have always been interested in Alvin Lucier ever since I was taught about him in a music class a long time ago. Alvin has a piece of work called I Am Sitting In A Room where he records his voice and then re-plays his voice into the room re-recording it. He does this over and over for 15 minutes. The result is that his voice begins to disappear and all that is left is the resonance and space of the room. Truly remarkable, because by the end, all you hear is the resonant tones and harmonies of the room itself.
"I am sitting in a room different from the one you are in now. I am recording the sound of my speaking voice and I am going to play it back into the room again and again until the resonant frequencies of the room reinforce themselves so that any semblance of my speech, with perhaps the exception of rhythm, is destroyed. What you will hear, then, are the natural resonant frequencies of the room articulated by speech. I regard this activity not so much as a demonstration of a physical fact, but, more as a way to smooth out any irregularities my speech might have."
Take a listen for yourself.

Elite Force - Samurai FM May Mix

Awesome new electro mix from Elite Force. Sweet Intro sHack. He will be playing a huge party in London on May 29th which is hosted by the Socialeyes crew (the cats he made this mix for... but lucky you get a taste too!). I mean, electro banger just sounds so generic now, but I guess that's why it's listed as 'BadAss' on soundcloud. Enjoy.

Logistics - Kaleidoscope (Jeuce Rework)

The Jeuce Joyriders return with something different this time. Don't worry, you'll still get your sick bass riffs and dubstep rhythms here, but the Jeuce rework of this classic drum & bass track from Logistics is definitely the most atmospheric release I've heard from them. But that's what I'm really loving about dubstep lately is the versatility of the genre. I can smash a dancefloor with a club heavy track or gradually grab every head in the lounge, and sometimes with the same track, it all depends on the crowd and the venue of course. Either way, Thank You Jeuce for dropping us this high quality freebie!

Loose Cannons - Deneke/Boy 8 Bit - Wolfen (Loose Cannons Remix)

Electro, sometimes tropical but seemingly always head bangin tunes. That's what The Loose Cannons are all about. These guys have their own radio show on KISS in the UK, they've rocked New Years Eve crowds in Vegas as well as the Australian Festival. Have a taste of what Loose Cannons are all about here with an original track they did featuring the Kakatsitsi Drummers for some of that tropical perscussion vibe. Then check out the nasty electro remix of Boy 8 Bit's "Wolfen".

Slipknot Bassist Paul Gray Found Dead This Morning

According to Des Moines Register , Slipknot bassist Paul Gray (aka #2 and The Clown) was found dead this morning in a hotel room. No foul play was suspected and it seems as though he passed as result of a drug overdose.
This is the third metal musician to die just in the past almost 2 months. There have been reports that Gray had been struggling for years with drugs and alcohol. The rock'n'roll lifestyle is hard, people. Party it up, but let's be responsible!
I know, I know. A lot of people think that Slipknot are a cheesy, over the top glorified nu-metal band (yes, I have heard those exact words used by others.) However, many agree that Slipknot brought heavy, fast-driven modern metal to the masses. They catch attention with their theatrical stage shows and pretty ridiculous costumes. Maybe it IS a bit ridiculous, but it's effective! Can we say, Kiss? I've spent my fair share of money on Slipknot CDs, shows, and memorabillia in my day, and I am pleased with my investments. I remember meeting Paul when I was 18, following a show. He, Mick, and Jim were VERY friendly, funny, and I enjoyed hanging out with them (much more than some OTHER members of the band, which will remain nameless.)

Check out this video of a life performance by Slipknot, doing their song Eyeless off of their self-titled album. REST IN PEACE, PAUL GRAY!

OMFG - Celebrity Court House Drama

Alexis Neiers was recently sentenced to 180 days in jail for being part of the 'Burglar Bunch' group. This group went around Hollywood breaking into the houses of Orlando Bloom, Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, & Audrina Patridge. Alexis can be seen on the new E! show, Pretty Wild. Below is footage from her court appearance.

allowscriptaccess="always" allownetworking="all" allowfullscreen="true"

src="http://cdn.abclocal.go.com/static/flash/embeddedPlayer/swf/otvEmLoader.swf?version=&station=kabc&section=&mediaId=7433991&cdnRoot=http://cdn.abclocal.go.com&webRoot=http://abclocal.go.com&site=">

She said she pleaded guilty because she didn't want to go to trial knowing that Orlando Bloom would be testifying. She didn't think that anyone would believe her against him, since he is such a big star. By watching the show, it seems her side of the story is that she was drunk and mixed up with a bad group of kids. She doesn't even know how she wound up in the house. Here is a pic of the burglar bunch:

Arsenal - Estupendo (Gui Borrato Remix)

Thank you, thank you OMFGAtlanta inbox. You've done it again. Another artist I was unaware of until now, Arsenal, has graced our inbox and I am enamored. Hendrik Willernyns and John Roan have been following the path of great musicians (venturing off into less than desirable habitats, getting highly inebriated, then coming back to the studio to record) and it seems to be paying off. Their music has already been successful as the soundtrack to a TV show, de Poolreizigers. Some of it is more chill, some of it is more danceable, but so far everything I've heard has been great. Check out thier site, then come back for this incredible deep house/progressive remix of "Estupendo" from Gui Borrato.

King Charles - We Didn't Start The Fire

The email we recieved with this video said, "King Charles - Blog this today if you can". That was May 6th. Epic Fail on my part. I suppose having this up on or by election day for the UK would've been spot on (like my brit lingo there?). But the video is still great as is the song. Not to mention the original version rocked my socks as an 8 year old. Can I get an "Amen"?

Style Of Eye - Puss Puss

Normally I don't like to post tracks that I don't have a clean version of for you, but I'm making an exception here. "Puss Puss" (swedish for "kiss kiss") is Style of Eye's latest banger which has already been rocking UK and OZ clubs for a while. The release date on this one has yet to be confirmed and I've had this sitting in my inbox for a long while. The main reason I'm excited about this release is the Noob remix I keep reading about... where is it?!!? I can't wait to hear that tune! Meanwhile, check out the rip on this soundcloud widget and imagine with me...

p.s. I will defintely try and post up that Noob remix once I find it! = )

Jonny White feat My Favorite Robot - Desensitize

A gorgeous collaboration. Most of the artists in this release are new to me except of course for My Favorite Robot. The MFR boys lend their haunting vocals to a gorgeous electonica broken beat track from frequent cohort, Jonny White. Go Canadian music! I really dig the original track best here. Finnish producer/remixer Phonogenic also delivers a great tech/progressive house remix, both of which you can download here for free. Grab yourself the high quality files on beatport. You can also check out DJ Chloe's remix on the soundcloud widget below.

The Sonicbids/RCRD LBL Indie Showcase On Delta Airlines

I make it no secret where I find my music. In fact, the main reason I am a DJ and more recently, the reason I am a part of OMFGAtlanta... is to share music. I've linked and kudo'd and shouted numerous times to and about the sites and places where I found a track or an artist. But the truth is that there is one site I usually go to before all others. rcrdlbl.com
"RCRD LBL launched in 2007, as a joint venture between Downtown Music LLC (Gnarls Barkley, Cold War Kids, Santigold), and online media pioneer Peter Rojas (Engadget, Gizmodo, Weblogs, Inc.), and was instantly regarded as a revolutionary force in the distribution of music online." -rcrdlbl.com's about page
RCRD LBL was the first site to post a free download of Kid Cudi's "Day N' Nite" in 2008. I continue to go there first to find tons of new music of every genre. Now, I'm not just talking about bands and artists you've never heard of before. Scissor Sisters just dropped thier newest single "Invisible Light" on RCRD LBL with a bag of remixes to accompany. And RCRD LBL also featured the Philadelphia rap duo Chiddy Bang's remix of the latest Gorillaz single, "Stylo". But finding new artists like Holy Ghost, the Brooklyn based DFA records prodigy duo, and their few but high quality releases like "Say My Name" is my nirvana.

Enough about why I love RCRD LBL. The reason I'm telling you all this is because the lovely folks at RCRD LBL are doing an awesome thing. The Sonicbids/RCRD LBL Indie Showcase is a HUGE chance for you to get your music heard approximately 20,000 times on 42,540 Delta flights to over 5 million listeners!** Click the link above and read about it on RCRD LBL's site! And remember me when you get famous!

**UPDATE** Bret Michaels: Life As I Know It to air on VH1

****UPDATE 5/17/10*****
"VH1 will air a half-hour special first look at Bret Michaels: Life As I Know It on Monday, May 31 with the full series set to premiere in Fall 2010. The series will show the audience Bret's life "when he isn't touring, shooting, partying and rocking out.""

****UPDATE 5/5/10****
"Bret Michaels has been released from the Phoenix, Arizona, hospital where he has been treated since suffering a massive brain hemorrhage 12 days ago, his neurosurgeon said Tuesday.

Doctors "are feeling pretty confident" that Michaels will not suffer another hemorrhage and will fully recover, Dr. Joseph Zabramski said.
The rock singer and reality TV star faces four to six weeks of rest before he can resume a normal schedule, the doctor said."

***UPDATE 4/28/10****
A USA Today source quoted: "While rocker Bret Michaels was upgraded to "critical but stable" condition yesterday, his publicist says he has also suffered a "setback."
A note on Bret's site says he is experiencing "a side effect from the brain hemorrhage called hyponatremia a lack of sodium in the body which leads to seizures." Michaels remains under 24-hour observation in the ICU unit in an Arizona hospital "and is in positive spirits," the note says. "He is responding well to tests and treatments. Even though today was a minor setback, doctors remain hopeful for a full recovery."

***UPDATE 4/27/10***
A source close to the situation said, "Bret is still in ICU. He still has the headache and is heavily sedated." Michaels is being watched by doctors in the Intensive Care Unit.

****4/23/10****
"Poison frontman and reality TV star Bret Michaels is reportedly in critical condition after sustaining a brain hemorrhage Thursday night. Michaels, 47, was rushed to a hospital after complaining of an excruciating headache and doctors performed several CAT scans, MRIs and an aniogram before keeping him in the ICU."

HANSON, SHOUT IT OUT (June 8)

"In the years since ''MMMBop,'' the brotherly trio has become an accomplished pop-rock group. This is their first album since 2007 — and since lead singer Taylor Hanson made new fans by teaming with members of the Smashing Pumpkins, Cheap Trick, and Fountains of Wayne for the supergroup Tinted Windows last year."

Adios Ronnie James Dio :(

Heavy metal vocal legend, Ronnie James Dio, passed away at 7:45 this morning, reported his partner Wendy Dio via www.ronniejamesdio.com . He reportedly had been battling stomach cancer and succumbed to the disease. According to Wendy Dio, many friends and family members were able to say their goodbyes.
Though Dio's career began in 1957, he is best known for replacing Ozzy Osbourne as the lead singer in Black Sabbath, and fronting his own band, simply named Dio. He is also credited with coming up with the infamous metal horns \m/  So sad to have lost another metal megaman. Have a look at these two videos and get your head-bang on.

Here is a live video from 1983. Dio performing one of their most infamous songs, "Rainbow in the Dark"

Yeah, yeah. I may catch some flack for posting a cover video on the day the man himself passed away, but to me this is an AMAZING video. Here is the band Killswitch Engage doing a medieval themed video to their rendition of HOLY DIVER!

Rest in Peace, Ronnie James Dio, from all of the ATL metalheads.

Just for fun

I See Stars Acoustic cover of The Outfield's "Your Love":

(His voice is a little to whiny in the acoustic version, but I definatly jam the studio version in my car.)

Check out Punk Goes Classic Rock for some fun new versions of your favorite classics. My favorites on the album is "Caught up in you" a 38special original covered by We The Kings, and "Take me home tonight" Eddie Money covered by Every Avenue.

I buy all the "Punk Goes..." records, this is the 9th release and is by far my favorite.. it reminds me of summer for some reason! Maybe because I have seen most of the Original bands that are covered on this album live at summer concerts.

"Daria: The Complete Animated Series" has been unleashed on the universe!

"The eight-disc set includes all five seasons of "Daria," plus special features like cast interviews, the two "Daria" movies, and the show's original five-minute pilot. Overall, watching "Daria" is like getting in a late '90s time capsule. It's a Generation X show made at a specific moment in time when Britney Spears and 'N Sync started to eclipse Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins, and rock in general. This show makes us oh-so nostalgic for the latter."

OMFG - Celeb Sightings in the ATL

This weekend in Atlanta, the famous were out! Your resident OMFG Gossip Grrrl is here to tell you about 3 sightings this weekend.
During the day on Saturday, one of your favorite local celebrity vampires, Ian Somerhalder, from The Vampire Diaries, was hanging around off Ponce de Leon checking out the dog adoptions. He tweeted to his fans to come see the dogs and said that if someone came to adopt one, he would meet them in Piedmont Park to play with the dog. Here is video he put up on his Twitter page to show people how adorable the pups were:
You can follow Ian on Twitter at: https://twitter.com/iansomerhalder
Then, Saturday night, Margaret Cho showed up @ The Graveyard Tavern in East Atlanta Village. The Graveyard Tavern is def one of OMFG's favorite places to eat, drink, dance & party!! I have to say I am very excited to see that celebs are picking Graveyard as a cool place to stop by. We always welcome hilarious comedians to stop by our favorite spots. I heard she was even giving out hugs to some of OMFG's favorites: Maxine, Tara, Brian & more!
Then, Sunday afternoon....another celeb sighting: Luke Wilson! Luke was just spotted coming out a LA Fitness off Sandy Plains Rd. He reportedly chilled on a bench out front reading a paper before he left the gym. He has been said to sometimes hang out at the local restaurant/bar, Paradise Grille. (He gets extra points from me for dating Drew Barrymore & being just an awesome actor. I love his movies!).

**So let us here @ OMFG know about any celebrity sightings and/or encounters that you might have! It's exciting to hear about. You can feel free to email us: omfgblogspot@gmail.com with subject saying: "Attn: Gossip Grrrl".***

The Amplifetes - Whizz Kid + It's My Life

Another very interesting Swedish band coming up on the scene. Definitely bringing a little more pop than anything you'll hear from Miike Snow, but equally as talented. The Amplifetes, named after the first Finnish beauty queen Doris Ampfliete, are a 4 piece who have come together over the last year after working with each other off and on throughout thier individual careers. Also, they bring experience from working with incredible artists like Madonna, Grand Master Flash, and Peter Bjorn and John as well as influences like The Electric Light Orchestra, The Ramones, Elvis Costello, and David Bowie.

The Whizz Kid EP is out now and they're even letting us give these tracks away for free for the first time! 2 original tracks as well as 2 remixes of 'Whizz Kid' from Blende and The Amplifetes' own Big Beat remix.

OMFG(hostly Intl) - Semi Cricle EP

Thank you Ghostly! Shitego brought us the epicly dreamy remix of Tycho's 'Adrift' which we posted a few days ago here. Now we've got Shigeto's new EP 'Semi Circle'. I would probably describe it as something like 'noise-jazz'. Here and there he uses samples but its mostly atmospheric sounds and noises with hip hop beats that come and go. Typical Ghostly sounds.

TRACKLIST:
1. Beginnings
2. There Is Always Hope
3. Eternal Life
4. Bakers Blunt Basics
5. Embrace The Cold

Act Yo Age - Song For Nona

Straight from Ajax @ Sweat It Out:
"Act Yo Ages' Song For Nona has been the most difficult track to blurb! Its like some molecular gastronomy fine dining thing, you know it tastes great but you are not really sure of the ingredients, nor which way to eat it. In a way its like a newly (de) constructed prawn cocktail, vaguely reminiscent of the 50s, 60's but with a whole new flavour. Sure its deepish, but its swamped up conga - funk gone mad slicked down in brill creme in a tux! Smooth and creamy it can really only be described as crooner tech! Yes its been getting props from Renaissance Man and Sinden, who know how to do the ocean liner boogaloo! We are brilled up in the pants too, with Savage Skulls, The Bulgarian and Franki Chan getting in on the remix action!
I mean WTF Granny! What did you do to inspire such a track? Ajax - nuff said."

I think Savage Skulls have once again gotten my vote for favortie remix in this package
