"A true underground dance party for Atlanta night life [it's actually underground]. The genre draws heavily on club culture for inspiration while incorporating other styles of music such as synthpop, nu-disco, and indie electro. The performers of alternative dance are closely identified with their music through a signature style, texture, or fusion of specific musical elements. Alternative dance or indie dance (also referred to as underground dance in the US) is a musical genre that mixes rock subgenres with electronic dance music. This is our hope to bring the UK club culture to you."

Jay-Z - I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight Remix

This is definitely one of my guilty pleasure songs.  I love the Cutting Crew version, and I like Jay-Z, so this works for me.  It's on my gym playlist and gets me going every time!

OM(usic)FG - Black Star

Just the other day, I was complaining to someone that I miss REAL hip-hop and rap. None of the current artists were impressing me, and I honestly felt like it was a bunch of wannabes just trying to make a quick buck.  They only rapped about hos and sh**t, and that doesn't impress me.  What happened to the real lyricists like Tupac, Dr. Dre (please come back), etc.??

THEN, I discovered Black Star. I'm upset I hadn't known about them sooner.  Black Star is made up of 2 hip hop greats, Talib Kweli and Mos Def (now Yasiin Bey).  The duo originally came about in the early 1990s from the underground alternative rap movement.  The helped shape the genre and even released a 1998 album called "Mos Def & Talib Kweli are Black Star."  Each artist went on to have successful solo careers, and gained much recognition.  A second Black Star alubm had been rumored for years, and finally on October 5, 2011, they performed their new single "Fix Up" on the Colbert Report.

Black Star recently played Bonaroo, and I'm completely jealous of anyone who was able to witness this.  Hopefully a new album will follow. These guys know what they're doing.  Talib and Yasiin, keep on keepin' on. I love it.

Beach House - Bloom

Beach House will be celebrating the release of their 4th record, Bloom, on May 15th. I was so excited when I saw this album was comprised of 10 tracks. Silly, I know, but a 10 track record is a good sign! The songs do not differ much from each other, but the album as a whole is great. It is more of an experience for front to back listening more than picking certain tracks out for measuring. This pop album is drenched in reverb, then polished for your listening pleasure. Mixed at Electric Lady Studios, Bloom has much to offer. Take a deep breath, and pull your head out of all the electro dubstep you've been listening to lately, put Bloom on and tune out. It will be worth it, trust me. (the album cover glows in the dark, kind of like the musical content of the record)

CALLmeKAT - Drunken Unicorn 05/29

Lo-Fi Pop artist CALLmeKAT will be at Drunken Unicorn Tuesday, May 29th. Her strange take on pop music is haunting and inviting altogether. The layering of her vocals on top of old swaying tempos makes her stand out in a world of programmed and quantized rhythms. Certainly one to go check out!

Take a minute and check out some of her tunes here: http://soundcloud.com/pixiebooth/sets/callmekat-songs-from-where/s-aXtXI

Unveiled by Greg Reve is a true testament to what electronic music is becoming. Genre spanning production that changes tempos and packs a giant punch.
