It is now official that the entire cast of Jersey Shore will be returning for a 2nd season on MTV. They are suspected to have now gone from earning a few hundred dollars per episode to $10,000 per episode. So get your fists ready to pump and your hair ready to pouf!

OMFG(uest Contrib): Stirling Grodner on Joy Tolentino @ Sweetgrass Too

Looking for a fresh new haircut Atlanta? Check out this review of Joy Tolentino @ Sweetgrass Too!
"I was so impressed with Joy Tolentino’s cuts and colors that the first time I went to her, I left my cut completely up to her creativity. But when you do have an idea, like any good collaborative artist, she can take that idea and make it 100x better."
"Joy, a musician herself, keeps the cozy salon upbeat with a fun and relaxing music. After my cut, she points me towards products that will help me take care of my hair, without trying to sell me anything I don’t need. Most importantly, her cuts and products do in fact make my hair look and feel healthier, more manageable and full of life. I’ve straightened my hair, put it up, blown it out, slept on it, curled it and just left it to dry naturally, and it always looks good thanks to Joy."

~Post Written By Guest Contributor: Stirling Grodner

Attn: OMFG readers.....This is our first "Guest Contributor" posting. I had ran into my friend Stirling @ Noni's one night while out dancing. I couldn't get over how marvelous her hair was looking. When she told me about her hair dresser, I was def interested in having her write a post for OMFG. Contact us if you are interested in writing a post as a guest contributor.

omfg Look at these Hippies!

EDWARD SHARPE AND THE MAGNETIC ZEROS
Here's a non-electro music post that shows a live performance of the ten piece (almost entirely) acoustic band of LA-based hippie folksters doing their original Musical ballads. Gotta hand it to the band Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros- it takes a lot of effort to pull that off without the net of a studio recording, and they do it well at the NPR setting. The energy of the group, especially the lead chick-singer, is inspiring (or discomforting, depending on your point of view).
Of course, just because they look like hippies doesn't mean they are; the lead singer used to lead the jerk-punk band Ima Robot. I, for one, can forgive them and appreciate the art as it now is.
from Paste Magazine "After breaking up with his girlfriend, moving out of his house, and joining Alcoholics Anonymous, Alex Ebert began work on a story about a messianic figure named Edward Sharpe. According to Ebert, Sharpe "was sent down to Earth to kinda heal and save mankind...but he kept getting distracted by girls and falling in love." Ebert later met singer Jade Castrinos in Los Angeles. In the summer of 2009, as Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Ebert and Castrinos toured the country with a group of fellow musicians in a big white school bus.
Like a crazed mix of Krishnas, von Trapps and musical merry pranksters, the dozen or so bandmates sing in a co-ed chorus about 40-day-long dreams, desert visions, the man from Galilee and their desire to heal you and set your spirit free. At the center is Ebert, laughing and dancing and shaking like he has that same covenant with God." - Richard Parks (Paste)

OM(ovies)FG - The Bounty Hunter

Check out the new trailer for The Bounty Hunter, directed by Andy Tennant (Fool's Gold / Hitch) and starring Jennifer Aniston & Gerard Butler. The two stars chemistry has been sparking many rumors about them "dating". Recently, at the Golden Globe awards, the two entered looking quite comfy together. Despite the fact that they look good together, they have actually both been laughing at the rumors. Butler recently told US Weekly that "working with Aniston has been a blast. She's like my best buddy. She's incredibly self-deprecating and again, just alive! I'm having fun doing this! I'm lucky right now!" Well.......we'll see how "lucky" he really gets.

DCUP - Style EP

In case you hadn't noticed, I'm a huge DCUP fan. = ) This Australian electro-disco dynamo has been releasing lots of quality grooves. Last week I featured his remix of 'Last Night A DJ Saved My Life" which I've been using in sets a lot lately. I'm still a huge fan of his remix for Brotherhood of Broken Hearts 'Together Lonely', a much more progressive, nu-wave offering but still a great track.

**track removed due to bad file**

The Style EP has been out on Beatport for a while, which features 4 of DCUP's original electro-disco grooves. But the hot ticket is the Style remixes release, featuring remixes from Hemingway, DJ Wool, and DCUP himself under his Hibeams alias.

Will.i.am and Slash Remix the Who’s “My Generation” For Super Bowl

"There will be a little extra Who at Super Bowl XLIV on Sunday February 7th: in addition to rocking the halftime show, the band’s “My Generation” will debut as a remix. Will.i.am has recruited Slash to help rework the classic track. Following the big game, the song will go on sale on iTunes, with all proceeds benefiting Haiti earthquake relief funds."

I love Slash. He has so much talent.

InsomniJACK - Nathan Vice vs. Faithless

You're almost through the week! Here's another one for the old skool klub kids. An insanely jacked remix of our old trance favorite, Insomnia. Ah, Faithless... how we've loved you. Nathan Vice is a Brooklyn based producer/DJ hailing from Puerto Rico. He's been featured on electrorash way back in '08 and he's got a couple of original tracks out on beatport. Here's his remix on one of our old classics.

Blame It On The Girls (Not On The Starsmith Remix) - Mika

Mika is a young man with plenty to sing about in the UK. He won a BRIT award in 2008 for "British Breakthrough Act" and he's nominated again this year for the "British Male Solo Artist" category. As most of you know I'm not a big pop singer fanatic, but this Starsmith remix is once again... awesome. Starsmith can't go wrong. His dreamy, disco nu-wave style makes this one a sure thing to drop next week at LOVE @ Apres Diem.

Oh, and for the UK readers, Mika is gearing up for some major promo action, catch him on the tele:
Around the release of ‘Blame It On The Girls’ Mika is set to take over the airwaves with a series of appearances on the UK’s biggest TV programmes.
He will kick off the appearances with a performance of ‘Blame It On The Girls’ on BBC1’s So You Think You Can Dance on January 30.

On February 5, Mika will be joining new ITV1 show Pop Star to Opera Star to perform an operatic rendition of ‘Rain’ with Danni de Niese.

Alan Carr will be welcoming Mika onto his show on February 11 to sing ‘Blame It On The Girls’ and then a day later the Album Chart Show will feature a special 6 track performance from our favourite pop megastar.

Mika will be up at the crack of dawn on February 18 to perform ‘Blame It On The Girls’ on GMTV while on February 27 ITV1’s Movie Toons have invited him down to sing his own version ‘When I See An Elephant Fly’.

Hollywood (Monarchy Gliese Remix) - Marina and the Diamonds

I'm not always a Monarchy fan. But the arrangement here is spot on for my taste. Without the melodramatic dreamwave sound Monarchy brings, this would still be too pop for me. "Oh my god you look just like Shakira, no no you're Cathrine Zeta actually, my name's Marina". And yes Marina, I'm obsessed with our mess too.

On Call (GRUM Remix) - Kings Of Leon

Now, I can't say I'm a fan of most of Kings of Leon's stuff. I know they're getting all huge with thier TV commericals, MTV promos and masses of teens rockin out to his warbling vocals. But I fell in love with the heartbreak that was "Because Of The Times" mostly because of 'On Call'. It probably had more to do with the fact that I associated a lot of the Followill brother's lyrics with the relatioship I was in at the time. Yea, we all know how that goes. Anyway, when I noticed that one of my favorite Australian electro producers had taken a shot at remixing one of my favorite heartbroken songs, I had to listen. Take it GRUM.

The Entrance Band at the Earl Tuesday January 26th

The Entrance Band, made up of Guy Blakeslee (Vocals, Guitar), Paz Lenchantin (Bass), and Derek James (Drums), recently started their US tour, and will be stopping in Atlanta tomorrow for a show at The Earl!!!

All Photos taken from The Entrance Band's website: http://www.theentranceband.com/web/
LA Times says, " Their music creates the feeling that something fresh and powerful is afoot. A potent mix of political mindedness -- including a few conspiracy theories -- and musical virtuosity, their songs throb and wail and strive to open minds.”

Their latest album, released September of 2009, is the self titled follow up to their 2006 album Prayer of Death.
The Show starts at 9:00 with openers Cloud Mountain Canyon and Lights; Tickets are $10.

DANGER EP 09/17 2007 + One Republic Remix

Franck Rivoire is the man. He's got a die-hard following and it's not hard to understand why. His 3rd EP releases today, January 25th (on vinyl) and February 1st (digital). As you can tell from the video, Danger is all about the 16bit. And for that reason, the old school gamers love him. I have to borrow a quick quote here from handsomeclothing.com:
"“4h30″ sounds like the music that should have been played during that badass ninja training 90s montage in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (you know the one, when they’re all sad because they don’t where Splinter is). Come to think of it, his costume kind of looks like a one of the footsoldiers for Shredder without the bandana."
4h30 - Danger

I've been a fan of his stuff since I found the 09/14 2007 EP a couple years ago. This guy definitely has carved out a nice niche for himself and now he's taking it even higher with his remixes. Here's his version of One Republic's 'All The Right Moves'.

All The Right Moves (DANGER Remix) - One Republic

--p.a.t.t.

p.s. Interesting side note I found on wiki:
Danger Music is an experimental form of avant-garde 20th and 21st century classical music. It is based on the concept that some pieces of music can or will harm either the listener or the performer. Since the performances must nearly always be canceled before they can be performed, danger music can also be thought of more as a philosophical or political statement than as a composition of music. For example Takehisa Kosugi’s composition Music for a Revolution[1] directs the performer to gouge out one of his or her eyes five years from now. Works such as this are also sometimes referred to as antimusic because they seem to rebel against the concept of music itself. Danger Music is often closely associated with the Fluxus school of composition.

OMF(ashion)G - The Jean Legging

I love wearing leggings. They are oh-so comfortable! And my favorite new fashion must-have is the jean legging. You can find them at many different stores now including: Macy's, Dillard's, Sak's, & Bloomingdale's. You can even find some at Target for $10. It seems all shapes of women are enjoying these jean leggings, because they fit comfortably to your body type and look like skinny jeans!

It's time to start thinking about the different possibilities that leggings can bring!

Get Better (Villa Vocal Remix) - Dan Le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip

The great wisdom that is dan le sac vs. Scroobius Pip is about to be laid upon you. Their first single 'Thou Shalt Always Kill' topped charts back in '07. I loved the message Pip delivered then just as much as I can groove with this latest offering. dan le sac runs all the production, performance, a lil backing vocals as well as a neat lil blog of his own.

OMF(ashion)G - Giles Deacon's Creative Style

((Photo by: Nick Wolf - Designer's Presentation & Party @ London's Somerset House))
While flipping through the January issue of Elle magazine, I came across an article on London Fashion Week. One of the designers they talked about was Giles Deacon and I found him highly creative, fun and interesting. The Elle article described Giles as "leading the charge" and described him as a designer who "channeled his love of cartoons, animals, and computer games into a new jewelry line."

Elle says the (new jewelry) line includes statement pieces like an oversized gold spider ring. The jewelry line will arrive in stores spring/summer 2010.

Bloggers are saying that "unlike his big show-stopping pieces in the past (as seen above!), his new jewelry line makes for a very wear-able collection." He was said to have made a big impression at fashion week in 2008 by having his models wearing pac-man-esque helmets!

Let me introduce you to "Eek"! This is "Deacon's imagined name for Mickey Mouse's cousin, the big-eared persona he created for his fall '09 runway show". (Elle)

Besides his jewelry designs, his clothes are awesome too! I'm in love with this Pac-man inspired dress and the dinosaur purse! Way to go Giles Deacon!!! ~S

Rad Anthem - Rad Omen

RAD OMEN - "Rad Anthem" from Nicholaus Goossen on Vimeo.

"Born out of the mouths of wolves and serpents. Raised up by degenerates and whores in the gutters of your forgotten cities.
Among the spawn of your outcast, your rebuked, your lepers. Breaking bread with gangsters, hustlers, real motherfuckers.
Scorned by your fearful leaders, and your simple masses. Bearing no marking, no number, no names.
Only one sign, the Rad Omen.
For we are many, for we are many."
Rad Anthem by Rad Omen

All I have to say is, sign me up. And that has got to be one of the koolest videos of all time. Mad props to Nicholaus Goosen. My vote goes to Swardson for best performance by a stripper in a music video.

Silvia (Sinden Remix) + (Sebastian Ingrosso & Dirty South Remix Sample) - Miike Snow

Two really good versions of Miike Snow's 'Silvia' just recently dropped on the blogs. Sinden (who's name you probably recognize from that HUGE 'Beeper' track last year) gives us a great atmospheric, yet almost tribal remix that definitely keeps a lot of the soul of the original.
Silvia (Sinden Remix) - Miike Snow

The other I'm afraid I can't host for you guys because it doesn't even have a release date yet! But our buddy Vicky has graced us with a lil sample to get your taste buds wet. Sebastian Ingrosso has been owning dancefloors across Europe for the past few years with his big room club sound and this collaboration with Dirty South's slightly more electro big room sound is sure to blow up big time!

Echoes In My Head - Zodiac Cartel Remix + Sweet Control

I'm all about the Zod.

Zodiac Cartel is super excited. They have a brand new website: zodiaccartel.com which I do think looks pretty sweet. How can you go wrong with General Zod? Thier single 'Sweet Control' has been tearing up dancefloors and you can get yourself a sweet "VIP" remix exclusively from thier website. But Zod is humble. So they are giving away a free 320 download of Zod's remix of Decoder & Healey's 'Echoes In My Head', here. New remixes on the way from Zod include artists such as Moby, Circuit Freq, Lee Coombs, Tai and Emanul Kosh.

"The summer is almost over on Jersey Shore, and after a bunch of romance, romance that turned into love triangles, parties, random girls invited to hot tubs, Snooki's mother, and Atlantic City, the MTV reality show is coming to a close. There is also a one-hour reunion after the show."

"Other times, you need a little more than a little. Guns n’ Roses’ Wednesday night concert in Winnipeg, Canada — their first North American date (and fifth show overall) since the release of Chinese Democracy in 2008 — was, thankfully, a case of the former. The gigantic three-runway black stage and high-tech production — which included all the requisite video screens, moving light trusses, pyro, percussion bombs and confetti cannons — also commanded plenty of attention. But not enough to overshadow Rose’s and co.’s triumphant return to North America. Now, you just have to wait for them to make it to the States. All you need is just a little … well, you know."

http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2010/01/19/john-mayers-dirty-mind-lonely-heart-new-issue-of-rolling-stone/

"The 32-year-old singer-guitarist admits he prefers Continuum to his 2009 disc Battle Studies (”I know that I’m supposed to say that my newest is the best one. Bullshit,” he says), that he hasn’t stopped thinking about his split with ex-girlfriend Jennifer Aniston (”I’ve never really gotten over it. It was one of the worst times of my life”) and that his sex life has become an endless loop of new girls rejecting him in clubs (”Blowing me off is the new sucking me off!”)."

"Grab the new issue for Mayer’s full advice for Tiger Woods (”I have masturbated myself out of serious problems in my life”) and more on his journey from bedroom guitar player to the most angst-ridden playboy in rock."

Colourless Colour (The Subs Popup Mix) - La Roux

Another solid remix off of La Roux's last album. The Subs are a 3 man group from Belgium poised to take over the electro new wave world. They just played a huge show last Friday with Don Rimini, Kissy Sell Out, Joe And Will Ask, and Fenech Soler. Here's a lil excerpt from thier myspace:
The past months, The Subs have enthralled audiences with a live show comprising of a unique set up: A modern power trio, by treating the DJ as a real bandmember tweaking and mixing the beats, with synths, guitar and screaming vocals on top. No hiding behind laptops - The Subs take the sweaty punktrashfeel to the dance stage - they work those machines!

Sub Cam – "Patience Love"

One of my favorite local bands has blown me away yet AGAIN! Sub Cam just recently released the video for their song called “Patience Love” off their most recent cd “Invisible Lie.”

These guys have come a long way since the first time I saw them. It was 2006, they said it was their second show, and they were all wearing camouflage pants. Maybe it was nerves, or the fact that the crowd was pretty lame that night, but I wasn’t overly impressed. There was something about them though that made me want to stick around as a fan, and I’m so glad I did. The quality of their music has gone from your average “garage band” to “why aren’t they on tour with big acts???”

It’s hard to explain just what I love about this band, so I’ll just let you listen. I present you with the new AWESOME video from Sub Cam called “Patience Love” ---

Like what you hear? You’re in luck. They have a show in Atlanta next Friday, Jan. 29th at Masquerade with Gravity Burn, Joan Red, and Stained Angel.

OMFG(olden Globes) - Congrats to Drew Barrymore

((By Robert Hanashiro, USA Today))
This is just a quick blog post to give congrats to Drew Barrymore for winning her first Golden Globe award last night. I have been a HUGE fan of hers since a very young age and I have been cheering her on for years. She had been nominated for this award twice before. Once, for her role in 1984's Irreconcilable Differences and again for 1992's Guncrazy. Her win for her work in Grey Gardens is more than well deserved. Her acting skills were at an all-time high in that film. It was such a far step away from the romantic-comedies that she has been doing lately. During her unrehearsed speech last night, Drew did regret leaving some people out of her "thank yous"...but in the press room afterwards she did try to make up for that (you can view that below).

Here is the trailer for Grey Gardens. It's totally worth checking out. Very interesting...

You can also check out one of the previous posts I did about Drew's directorial debut with the film, Whip IT! by clicking HERE.

Fanfarlo

Fanfarlo - Harold T. Wilkins by Stachemou from Stachemou on Vimeo.
Fanfarlo is a London-based indie pop band formed in 2006 by the Swedish musician Simon Balthazar. They make extensive use of the trumpet, violin and mandolin as well as more commonplace instruments such as guitars and drums.

The simple and exciting pop ditties peak out by the versatility of the instrumentation and the pristine almost-gypsy sounding vocal harmonize. There's also an electro influence running through their folk rock sensibilities that makes their music more dynamic and exciting than many other new bands on the indie circuit.

You can hear most of their music online at playlist.com or check out their 2009 album Reservoir at their official website. They tour a lot in Europe but will be having some shows out west in February. It's easy to see how well they represent the forefront of the recently emerging Euro-Gypsy-Pop-Folk-Rock scene- taking hipsterdom to a new level for better or worse...

Big thanks to deathelectro for posting this guy's tracks. I am a HUGE sucker for anything with a solid funky bass line with a little disco and/or electro melody. Plus the vocals on his original track are soulful, sexy... on point. Combo rocks. I'm also posting a remix of his track Crystal Ocean reworked here by Wolfchild. Another funky soul track with a bit more electro to knod your head.

MGMT - Kids and the making thereof

Wow, this video is crazy! I couldn't believe my eyes when I first saw it. Definitely some images that will get your brain going. Yeah, I know, it has been out for a while, but they just released a "making of" so I figured now would be a better time than ever to finally get around to posting it. Enjoy!

Ice Cream (Popular Computer Remix) - New Young Pony Club

Popular Computer is a duo consisting of Parisian producer Sylvain DALIdo and his computer (only one PC/one keyboard). The name POPULAR COMPUTER fits this music persona completely. Sylvain creates an amalgam of pop music and shiny retro-futurist electronic dance. The world he creates is a fantasy of sophistication and technological elegance.

PC's first full length album "Senso Data" is out now on all of these major retail sites, Amazon/ junodownload/ iTunes US/ Beatport. Of course, I'll give you a taste of his style, including a remix of one of my fave indie dance tracks.
