R.E.M. - Collapse Into Now

Being from Georgia, I have always enjoyed R.E.M.'s music, and when I got my hands on some of the tracks from their new record I was pleasently surprised. The album is titled Collapse Into Now and is set to release on March 8th. The album is filled with lush atmospheres that only R.E.M. can create. The songs range from pop-rock bounce arounds to somber thought-provoking reflections. My favorite cut so far is Oh My Heart. Stipe's voice sounds aged and mature on this record, it rests right inbetween the mandolin and haunting backing vocals. I highly recommend taking some time and checking this one out.
Head over to their website, they are currently doing a remix project where you can download stems and remix "It Happened Today" off of "Collapse Into Now". (http://remhq.com/index.php)

Teeel - Amulet

Inspired by italo, electro and the 80s new wave movement, Teeel aka Jim Smith credits his sound to marathon movie watching and being an obsessive gear head. Crammed in a 10x10 teal painted room, stacked with synthesizers and walls covered with vintage Moog ads, Jim creates music that is perhaps best described as hypnotic soft-vocal, synthpop.

Subvader - Snow In Space Mix

"I wanted to make this mix feel like snowflakes in space. The songs are not representative of the 'tear-out' noisier dubstep, rather they fill your room (or headphones) with an ethereal energy that makes you feel weightless. Turn down the lights and make love to this one." - Subvader

OM(usic)FG - Wesley Cook at The Vinyl - Feb 17

Wanna get “leid?” We can help with that. Fresh off a win at Hard Rock’s battle of the bands, Wesley Cook is bringing his full band to the Vinyl’s stage for a great show that is not to be missed!

Click on flyer for Facebook event page

Wesley started off with a solo acoustic album in 2005 and has come a long way since then. His most recent full-band album has a laid back, pop/beachy (is that even a category?) sound. Cue my Van Morrison reference and add some of O.A.R.’s bold, high-energy sound, and you’ve got Wesley Cook. He puts so much of his personality into each song, and you feel like you know exactly what he's singing about.

He has shared the stage with many great artists such as Drivin’ n’ Cryin, Zac Brown Band and Manchester Orchestra. In 2006, he was nominated for “Soloist of the year” in the Athens Music Awards, and he has appeared on MTV2 as an “Artist on the Rise.”

Some of my favorites from the cd are: Tasty Devil Woman, Home Grown Girl, and Sunrise Over Georgia. You can check out the cd New Ground at CDBaby.com, or click the picture below:

You can hear Wesley LIVE tomorrow night at Vinyl! Also on the bill: Christopher Alan Yates, and Patrick Scott. Doors at 7:30, $10 at the door. That's a bargain for some great music, plus you get a LEI! Just do it!

Here’s a video from Wesley’s 7/21/10 show at Hard Rock Café. Always a very enjoyable show!

OMF(amous)G - Celebrity Sightings

Over the past couple of weeks, I have learned of some new celebrity sightings in the SouthEast area.
1st off....Spotted: Ben Affleck taking his daughter to visit the Imagine It! Children's Museum of Atlanta. Rumor has it that they had a great time, but that Ben was a little moody in person. (But, more handsome.) Maybe he was in town to visit his buddy Matt Damon who is in town filming the movie Contagion.
Reelmovienews.com
Spotted: Frankie Muniz hanging out at the bar @ The Graveyard Tavern in East Atlanta Village. Apparently, scoping the place out to find himself some "hos". Classy bro? I don't think so.
7confessions.blogspot.com
Spotted: Ke$ha next to a boutique in Nashville. Heard she was super nice!

I can't help but think of her whenever I see him on Idol now.

Dr. Dre set to drop "Detox" finally?

FINALLY! Maybe? Who knows? Dr. Dre says he’s ready to release Detox, an album his fans have been waiting a LONG time for. Dr. Dre’s last cd 2001, which was released in November 1999, debuted at number 2 on the US Billboard 200 chart and sold an incredible 516,000 copies in its first week.

Detox was originally scheduled to be released in 2004, but Dre kept delaying the release in order to work with other artists. Now another release date has been set, but take it as you will, the release date is April 1, 2011. A hoax? I hope not. Potential tracks have been “leaked” all through out 2010 (Kush, I Need a Doctor, Under Pressure), and Kush, which peaked in the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100, was officially released on iTunes on November 18, 2010.
Trying to repeat the success of  2001, Dre has brought in many guest appearances on Detox including Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Akon, Jay-Z, Game, and La Roux. There are rumored guest appearances by Ice Cube, Lady Gaga, Ashanti, Busta Rhymes, T.I., Pharrell, and many others.

Dr. Dre is set to perform with Eminem at the Grammy Awards this coming Sunday (2/13/2011) in his first television performance in over a decade….hopefully an effort to promote the new album. Whether or not we’ll actually get a new Dr. Dre cd in April is unknown, but I’m really looking forward to this performance.

As one YouTube commenter says:
"Damn, I love Dre, but I've been waiting patiently forever for Detox to come out. If I had a buck for every time Detox has been delayed, I'd be able afford a pair of Dre's overpriced headphones."

Well hopefully, my friend, you won't have to wait for long.

Check out “Kush” by Dr. Dre!

Orson Bramley - Portraits Of The Invisible Man

Some very kitschy new tunes from Orson Bramley. 'Portraits Of The Invisible Man' is the 1st single from his solo album 'Inverted Snobbery'. It almost sounds like something experimental, but then again it's catchy enough to keep me groovin to it. With a pack of dubstep remixes and a pack of techno remixes, a very solid release here for Orson Records
